The Wise and The Foolish Virgins

The Wise and The Foolish Virgins

The Wise and The Foolish Virgins

The foolish are those who had oil in their lamps but none in their vessels. By the foolish in the text, therefore, we may understand those who have the light of knowledge in their heads and the lamp of profession in their hands, but no oil of grace in their hearts.

They are foolish because they know neither God nor themselves, neither sin nor salvation, neither the depth of the fall nor the greatness of the remedy.

Foolish, as regards themselves, in thinking that light and knowledge will save them, without life and grace; And they are foolish as regards others, for want of an experimental acquaintance with the heart.

They know nothing, therefore of the temptations of a child of God; how he is beset on every hand; how Satan is ever thrusting at or enticing him; how his own heart is continually prompting him to evil, and how snares are in every direction laid at his feet.

The foolish know nothing of these trials, they are Pharisees, who make clean the outside of the cup and platter, who whitewash and adorn the sepulcher (tomb) without, while within it is full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.

What Are the Benefits of Being Grateful?

David knew well, and every child of God knows well…

…that if he were allowed to slip if he were suffered to say or do anything unbecoming, these would be the very first to make him an open reproach.

The foolish can and will make no allowances for the least slip of tongue or foot, for they are ignorant of the weakness of the flesh, the subtlety of Satan and the strength of sin, and the power of temptation.

Was he to stumble and fall, the foolish would be sure to point the finger of scorn at him?

Lord, of whatever temptations I may be called upon to endure, whatever snares of Satan or lusts of the flesh may be set my path behind in before, O keep me, keep me that I may not be the reproach of the foolish that they may have nothing to accuse You.

The story of the 10 virgins is found in Matthew 25

By the Grace of God I’ve Tried to Make the Best Of It

By the Grace of God I’ve Tried to Make the Best Of It

By the Grace of God I’ve Tried to Make the Best Of It

“Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.” — Psalms 25:16

Due to various childhood trauma and circumstances, and the unique way I responded to them, I (and I’m not going to say it was some cruel trick or predestination of God) my 66 years of life have predominantly been of longing, loneliness and affliction.

It is what it is and by the grace of God I’ve tried to make the best of it, like a person with a handicap. I did blame God from the very beginning, even as young boy at the age of 5, but over the years realized that He, My heavenly Father, was not to blame.

I can’t blame anyone for my responses to being wronged here on earth.

They are my free will choice.

So, loneliness is feeling unhappy about being socially isolated or for some, the false perception of not being loved. Perhaps their needs, expectations or extra capacities disappoint or let them down.

Almost any woman in the world can relate to the letdown of their idea of a Prince Charming and the actual relationship in the flesh.

Perhaps some of the loneliest people are in a loveless marriage?

For me, I’ve identified that I want love, perhaps a perfect relationship.

Why not?

Who wants a mediocrity?

I think the Bible defines the ultimate, perfect relationship as that between God the Father and God the Son; perfect love, perfect harmony and perfect union from eternity past, broken only once on the cross when Christ took my sin upon Himself, my sin nature.

What Are the Benefits of Being Grateful?

It seems engrained in humans to know and understand a concept of a higher eternal laws.

Even children respond to “happily ever after” with that rare, unique union and love of their one and only prince or princess.

The idea is that they will never be alone ever again.

There are a lot of things associated with loneliness but there is a loneliness that, at the core, is an unmet or unrealized or partially realized or undeveloped need.

It can be a need for the idea of perfect love, intimacy, unity, harmony of spirit, commonality, total acceptance, approval, understanding, closeness affection or expressions of love in everyday things.

It’s the communication of love or on many levels, the giving of one’s self. The trust, risk, the enjoyment of that person, and if you are lucky, the whole person.

You may benefit from their intelligence, creativity, attributes, talents, personality, temperament and other things.

The degree that they choose to love you, their pursuit,  the passion, the commitment,  the exclusivity,  self-sacrifice and their ability to believe in and accept the live offered is all a part of the thing that erases loneliness.

So, I believe that with each human there is a soul loneliness, a longing for God, a longing to be one with your Creator.

As a Christian I believe that when I am in heaven with Christ that finally my loneliness will be erased for all eternity.

Casting My Dice with Jesus

Casting My Dice with Jesus

Casting My Dice with Jesus

This may sound a bit corny, but you only have one chance at eternal love.

You know that any human that you love will eventually die, but the only other option that I have seen offered by anyone or anything is an Eternal God who loves you, who created you and who wants to have a relationship with you for the rest of eternity.

That is your only good option. All other options are finite and temporary. I believe that Jesus Christ took on the form of a finite human man so that he could unite us to the possibility of infinite love in Him.

Imagine having a relationship that only got better and better and better for the rest of eternity.

I’m casting my dice with Jesus.

I’m putting all my eggs in one basket.

I am willing to choose Jesus.

It’s like winning the ultimate lottery and Jesus’s work, obedience and sacrifice made it possible.

When they had crucified him, they divided up His clothes by casting lots.

Marriage Mimic’s Our Spiritual Relationship with Christ

Marriage Mimic’s Our Spiritual Relationship with Christ

Marriage Mimic’s Our Spiritual Relationship with Christ

We see the promise of eternal bliss in an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ, illustrated in marriage, (your relationship with your wife), parent -child, and friendship.

We know the possibility of a perfect relationship without spot, wrinkle, or blemish.

We see this in the Eternal and unending joy that the God Father and God the Son and Holy Spirit experienced prior to the interruption of the event of the cross when Jesus became sin for us, and God had to turn his head!!

That perfect eternal relationship was broken.

Marriage is probably the most important illustration and teaching tool of what God is after in terms of His relationship to us. What I have been noticing is the complexity of being born into and raised by sinful, broken people who are not only imperfect but have a nature to be rebellious towards the very One who created them.

Marriage Mimic’s Our Spiritual Relationship with Christ

After salvation the Holy Spirit, God Himself enters in to our being and we began to experience a higher plane in terms of our relationship with Him. (Even the possibility of a perfect relationship with a perfect being).

In order for us to have an intimate relationship with God Our nature has to reflect the nature of Christ and through the blood of Christ God sees us as alive, not dead in our sins.

Without the life of Christ in us we are just like zombies.

It certainly wouldn’t work to have a relationship with a dead person, physically or spiritually. Marriage seems to mimic our spiritual relationship with Christ in many ways. As successful healthy marriage is very godly (if it follows the same path of pursuit spiritually), In practical terms, all of the same things that would interrupt our fellowship with God can also interrupt a marriage.

For example, we have a supernatural enemy who is against any harmony and love and will do anything to destroy marriage. We have our fleshly desires and our selfishness which continues to try to put ourselves on the throne of our lives and certainly is only in love with self.

We have a multitude of distractions that continually causes us to wander off of that very clear simple path.  We have all pressures dealing with our human body; aging, health, survival, and safety.

The challenge in both relationships are real and seemingly unending.  Our blessed Hope is to be free from all that would come between that oneness.

The minute by minute work is pruning out anything that comes between that.

Thank God for GRACE that comes down from the Father of lights saving us continually from ourselves.

It is easier for a small child to love. They don’t focus on the bad in a person.
