Reaching the Well Adjusted Person for Christ

Reaching the Well Adjusted Person for Christ

Reaching the Well Adjusted Person for Christ

How do we, as Christian brothers, help the men who would be considered well adjusted?

The guy who didn’t have abuse and severe trauma in childhood resulting in addictions or extreme dysfunctional behaviors, the kid who had a relatively stable childhood?

I’m thinking of the normal, contented average Christian man who loves the world more than Jesus but may not know it.

As a Christian, the worldly guy has no vision, no real relationship with Christ, and whose nature is passive and non-confrontational about everything that doesn’t measure up to Christ.

He won’t act or listen when confronted by the Holy Spirit.

This guy will miss rewards in heaven because he half-heartedly or lukewarmly chose by an act of his free will to seek, ask and knock after Jesus.

He is disinterested in loving God with all his heart, soul and mind, and strength. He wants fire insurance but still be able to call most of the shots.

I am thinking about someone I know, a Christian who Satan sidetracked.

What happened, and how did Satan draw this person into a web of deceit?

Was it a lack of submission to the Holy Spirit and those seemingly little things, for example, having to do with self-discipline or believing truth?

Or was it a matter of entitlement/ ego?

Did he believe the hype about himself instead of believing what Jesus thought about him?

Or was it a “Williams” family curse kind of thing; hardheadedness, stubbornness, and a lack of humility and meekness to be corrected and to listen to someone?

(PROVERBS) Or was it giving in to the sinful flesh and its sensual desires and needs? What caused the downfall?

Today, I’m thinking about what it would look like to be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ because that is where we are going.

All of my brokenness, self-dependence, self-rule, and pride must be broken and removed even if by the fires of purification.

It includes the broken addict or the extremely successful person.

Two Measures Foolish: Foolish to God for we sin – Foolish to the world for the cross.

God’s Highest Standard

God’s Highest Standard

God’s Highest Standard

Disclaimer; these are my thoughts and not to be taken as Biblical doctrines. Although there is truth contained in the musings it is meant to unveil perspective.

Sin is any, action, thought, heart attitude that hurts oneness or unity or love or harmony in a valid, legal, blessed of God relationship between two people or an individual and God Himself.

God designed us to be one in unity and love just like he designed Adam-and-Eve’s relationship, and even greater, a reflection of the relationship between the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. The perfect love, perfect relationship for all of eternity, only interrupted when Christ became sin on our behalf.

I was thinking about various people and their lives – and mine – how far off of the mark are we from Christian perfection? If God, who knows all, understands all and is the only standard of judgment the truth is going to prevail, good and bad.

Without a standard you can’t have a law or rule…

…otherwise it would just be arbitrary. For example, thru shalt not kill is based on the standard of God’s nature to create, honor, and value life.

God gives life and this creates the highest standard which then actions can be judged wrong. We can make more choices that kill physically, emotionally, spiritually and eternally. These choices eventually lead to life or death. Sin always leads to death of some sort. It may look like life, but it is short lived and only for a season. You reap dead, unreal fruit and eventually starve to death.

Every person will be judged by God’s highest standard, His glory (His nature and perfection). Christian’s will be judged or have been judged through Jesus Christ, as only Christ met that perfect standard of “the glory of God”.

God's Highest Standard

God’s Highest Standard

But even for Christians, and to get to my point, even we will finally have the complete truth revealed to us, the truth from God’s perspective. Everything that was wrong or off or substandard will be set right (spot, wrinkle, blemish).

It is a given that every sin, every deception, every hidden motivation, every disobedience to His written word and also of the voice of the Holy Spirit will be exposed to the light and truth of God. We will see ourselves as God saw us, the good, the bad and the ugly.

We will need to see and understand every area we were off base on, too focused on, away from God’s perspective, wrong thoughts, lies believed. Areas of unbelief, false doctrines, idols, all areas of pride and the condition of the heart, the areas that we lacked knowledge, truth and understanding, areas where we lacked His Love, and the list could go on and on.

God will be the judge…

…or disclosure of the whole truth, and we all will be surprised. Perhaps we were doing far better in practicing forgiveness, mercy, compassion, concern, or using the gift of prayer, or comforting the hurting, or standing up for truth or suffering persecution because of our relationship with Christ.

Some of us listen to the still small voice of the Holy Spirit and obey and some of us back off from the demanding our rights or yielding in humble submission instead of cold-hearted rebellion, clinging to Jesus instead of self-medicating with the flesh or the world.

Ultimately God’s judgment is all encompassing, and the final ruling will have to do with your relationship with Jesus Christ. Did you believe, trust, receive Jesus Christ into your heart and soul, your mind and you’re being?

Christian Baptism and Dedication Prayer

Christian Baptism and Dedication Prayer

Christian Baptism and Dedication Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, we’re thankful for the opportunity, honor, and blessing to be here today with _________ to share in his/her baptism.  May you grow his/her mustard seed of faith and acorn of courage into mighty oaks and may Wisdom bestow keen insight and deep understanding into the blessings of living a Holy life as he/she grows and matures into the man/woman you’ve called him to be before the foundations of this world.

May the Holy Spirit bless us with His presence here today and guide _______’s  thoughts and harness his/her God given talents into powerful forces so that he/she may be a positive influence in the world, a blessing to those he/she encounters, a champion to the less fortunate, and an unwavering promoter of virtue and decency.

Lord, please build a fortress of protection around _______’s body, mind, and soul to defend against the spiritual forces of darkness and the powers of this world. Teach him/her the benefits of putting on your armor so he/she can lead a noble and victorious fight for good in a world that’s lost its way.

Teach him/her the value of your Word, the joy and peace it brings, and to the wisdom and strength of mind it imparts to those who mine its treasure.  And mold and develop a good attitude in him/her so that he/she can weather all the ups and downs of this life.

May _______ be a motivator and encourager by displaying strength of kindness and the power of grace to those you put in his/her path.  May you imbue him/her with the strength of will to stand up for what is right while providing him/her with diplomacy, shrewdness, and wisdom.

Bless his/her feet to stay on the straight and narrow path, and not be deceived by the world’s magnificent, but hollow splendor.  May he/she avoid the pitfalls of youthful indulgences that lead to the well-worn path of trouble, pain, and wasted time.

And Father please bless those of us gathered here today in support of _______ so that we may walk worthy and be courageous defenders of heavenly common-sense it takes to be a strong support system for _______.

We pray these things in the name of Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, Great High Priest, Bread of Life, Good Shepherd, Mighty One, Light of the World, The Way, The Truth, The Life, the King of Kings and Victorious One… and we all say – Amen!

Steve Oberhansly, a guest blogger, wrote this Christian Baptism and Dedication Prayer to be spoken over his grandson Isaiah at his baptism. When Steve gave us permission to publish this prayer he said “I could do worse than praying this for myself every day.”  We agreed.

You are welcome to use this prayer it if you wish. We left blacks for you to fill in with the child’s or adults name and made in gender neutral.

You can download a PDF copy of this prayer right here.
