Two Measures Foolish: Foolish to God for we sin – Foolish to the world for the cross.

Loving an Invisible God is Challenging

Loving an Invisible God is Challenging

Loving an Invisible God is Challenging

I was has encouraged to write about things that God may be speaking to us about, current movements of the heart and mind.

I want to approach this in my way.

C.S. Lewis wrote a wonderful book on the 4 loves and I am sure thousands of books have been written on Christian love, but I have questions; questions many may ponder but never speak out loud to anyone.

We have theological answers to why God loves, and many scriptures that express truths like, God is love.

John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

One of my questions is, “why do You, Infinite God, love me?” By faith I believe He loves me, but why? I can’t say my human mind can comprehend it.

We usually can give reasons to why we love people on earth and Christians choose to love those they have few reasons to love. They call that Agape love, an act of the will to love, the love supplied by God Himself.

Loving an Invisible God is Challenging

Loving an Invisible God is Challenging

We could all come up with a list of attributes we find appealing in people, things that make us naturally love them. That’s easy. It could be simply biology or chemistry or shared interests, right? Some even are I a state that they find little to love in anyone. We all do well at “self” love.

But why do you, the Creator love me? Do I even really know what that means? I’m not sure many of us understand how an infinite being would find that much redeeming in most of us to send his Son and die for us.

So, let’s think about the design of mankind. We are created in His image, so I suppose He sees aspects of His being in us. We are descendants of Adam and nothing else was created in His image. Christ became a man, a perfect man. I can understand how God loves His Son. That makes sense, just like loving your very own child.

And He has commanded us to love Him with all of our hearts, soul mind and strength. I don’t know about you, but loving an invisible God is challenging for many Christians including me.

But I guess even those I love the most here on earth are still mysteries to me, ever learning and getting to know them, observing them over time.

But this extreme love He asks for… ALL Our Love. How does this come about? I’m sure it’s an act of grace, He supplying even that love, but why can’t I grasp it?

So, I had a special gift from God. He allowed me to see a person from His creative point of view, the way He designed this person. It was a more compressive view of His design that I’ve ever seen or been allowed to see.

Loving an Invisible God is Challenging

It’s happened a few times with a couple of people…

…but not to this extent. Imagine seeing the Palace behind the very tall wall protecting it. Part of His design for this human, the design created before creation was shone to me. Most of us are so incomplete we just the mess of contradictions.

Our weaknesses and faults, sins, frailty are easy to see, and certain positive personality traits can be seen with most, but from His eyes, we all have a perfectly lovable design. Yes, He has designed you to be spectacular, spectacularly lovable.

He gave me a glimpse of a finished person, and the extraordinary value of that person from His eyes, and in turn the reality it must be true for all mankind. He sees us as we rarely can see ourselves finished in Christ.

And if I could see so much in a person to love, such lovable traits and giftings it only makes sense that He sees me finished to His to the specifications of His design, a unique reflection of His glory and therefore, He does find many, many reasons to love me and fellowship with me in intimate love for all eternity.

I can be confident that He, infinite God desires me, even to the point of being a jealous God.

Seeing the Unseen

Seeing the Unseen

Seeing the Unseen

There are all kinds of people. And depending on your personal preferences you will find them to varying degrees desirable as a person or undesirable, meaning that you enjoy being around some people and hate being around others.

The vast number of our encounters with other people are neutral in that you don’t know them well enough to make any kind of realistic judgment about their personality or character. But of course, we are drawn to some people and repulsed by others, even before we get to know them.

I have a confession to make. God has shown to me that over the years I got much pleasure and enjoyment from using people. It’s a part of my sinful nature. I feel better about myself and I can add self-worth or greater value to myself if people like me. It’s a hidden motivation for some of us. We perform for approval. On the other hand, the purity of an Agape love has no such strings attached. You simply love another person or persons without selfish motivations.

This means you may love those you consider to be your inferior. Don’t deny it. All humans make this type of judgment. We size them up quickly by their socioeconomic status, education, intelligence, looks, grooming, race, social standing, history, personality, attitudes perceived, hygiene, physical shape, and achievements. We judge others before we have a chance to know much about them.

God, on the other hand…

…sees the heart, meaning he sees the whole person and every circumstance that made them the way they are. We are all sinful, broken people who have been raised by sinful, broken people, and I mean, every aspect of humans is broken even though many do a good job of hiding their sin and brokenness. We reflect God in that we were created in His image therefore we see much good, but the virus of sin has messed up our programming.

God sees the whole person and every circumstance that made them the way they are, and He takes that into account in His great mercy and compassion.

Imagine if it were impossible to hide the heart from other people. Imagine everyone on Earth walking around and looking physically on the outside exactly as the way they look on the inside. This is how God sees all of us. Nothing is hidden from Him and yet he loves us with infinite love.

God sees your heart, your soul, every thought that has ever floated through your mind, the “real” you.

Seeing the Unseen

Seeing the Unseen

God is love and we use the word Agape to express this kind of love. Only God can love this way and His greatest expression of this love was in sending His Son to the Earth to save us from ourselves. We must receive Agape love from Him as we have no natural source from within ourselves.

Agape love can either the expressed in the freedom to love someone without knowing anything about them, the good, the bad, or the ugly, or it can be expressed in the love for someone that you see and know all too well. You know their capacity for evil and selfishness, even the hidden contained within, the secret actions or attitudes others may have never seen.

Jesus knows the very worst about you and also your capacity of the human heart for evil. This includes not loving others, passivity towards others. I believe that if we had been put into other people’s circumstances, we might have turned out far worse than they did. For example, just look at dogs. Dogs raised with discipline and love are a pleasure to be around. Dogs tortured and treated cruelly are a danger.

I believe that God…

…also judges each of these things and minds. An abused, unloved child doesn’t have the advantages you had. God sees this in His great mercy and love. He also sees that we were all born into sin, separated from Him and His glorious nature. He sees everything that happened to you, every circumstance, and He takes that into account.

But he also sees our sin nature’s effect on us. Our nature to rebel against Him, to be stubborn, to reject the honor that is rightfully His as Creator. We were born with the capacity to be our own God’s, to act as if we not only created ourselves but that we have enough sense to rule ourselves. This is laughable. We can see how man has ruled himself through the record of history. Man is seriously broken!

Only Jesus saves us from self-rule. He puts the order of things back into the balance He designed. He becomes rightful God to us, the way it was when He walked with Adam and Eve in the garden.

Jesus is the only way to subdue the rebellion of your heart.

God’s Highest Standard

God’s Highest Standard

God’s Highest Standard

Disclaimer; these are my thoughts and not to be taken as Biblical doctrines. Although there is truth contained in the musings it is meant to unveil perspective.

Sin is any, action, thought, heart attitude that hurts oneness or unity or love or harmony in a valid, legal, blessed of God relationship between two people or an individual and God Himself.

God designed us to be one in unity and love just like he designed Adam-and-Eve’s relationship, and even greater, a reflection of the relationship between the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. The perfect love, perfect relationship for all of eternity, only interrupted when Christ became sin on our behalf.

I was thinking about various people and their lives – and mine – how far off of the mark are we from Christian perfection? If God, who knows all, understands all and is the only standard of judgment the truth is going to prevail, good and bad.

Without a standard you can’t have a law or rule…

…otherwise it would just be arbitrary. For example, thru shalt not kill is based on the standard of God’s nature to create, honor, and value life.

God gives life and this creates the highest standard which then actions can be judged wrong. We can make more choices that kill physically, emotionally, spiritually and eternally. These choices eventually lead to life or death. Sin always leads to death of some sort. It may look like life, but it is short lived and only for a season. You reap dead, unreal fruit and eventually starve to death.

Every person will be judged by God’s highest standard, His glory (His nature and perfection). Christian’s will be judged or have been judged through Jesus Christ, as only Christ met that perfect standard of “the glory of God”.

God's Highest Standard

God’s Highest Standard

But even for Christians, and to get to my point, even we will finally have the complete truth revealed to us, the truth from God’s perspective. Everything that was wrong or off or substandard will be set right (spot, wrinkle, blemish).

It is a given that every sin, every deception, every hidden motivation, every disobedience to His written word and also of the voice of the Holy Spirit will be exposed to the light and truth of God. We will see ourselves as God saw us, the good, the bad and the ugly.

We will need to see and understand every area we were off base on, too focused on, away from God’s perspective, wrong thoughts, lies believed. Areas of unbelief, false doctrines, idols, all areas of pride and the condition of the heart, the areas that we lacked knowledge, truth and understanding, areas where we lacked His Love, and the list could go on and on.

God will be the judge…

…or disclosure of the whole truth, and we all will be surprised. Perhaps we were doing far better in practicing forgiveness, mercy, compassion, concern, or using the gift of prayer, or comforting the hurting, or standing up for truth or suffering persecution because of our relationship with Christ.

Some of us listen to the still small voice of the Holy Spirit and obey and some of us back off from the demanding our rights or yielding in humble submission instead of cold-hearted rebellion, clinging to Jesus instead of self-medicating with the flesh or the world.

Ultimately God’s judgment is all encompassing, and the final ruling will have to do with your relationship with Jesus Christ. Did you believe, trust, receive Jesus Christ into your heart and soul, your mind and you’re being?
